_ Hamilton PTO Donates $1000.00 for Apps
The Hamilton Central School Parent Teacher Organization has recently granted the request from the Innovation and Enrichment Director, Eric Coriale, for $1000.00 to be used for apps for the students at all grade levels including elementary, middle, and high school and special education, as well as RtI.
Hamilton Central School has many devices available to students throughout the building, including iPods, iPads, and the like. These devices have specific apps tailored to meet the needs of each individual learner.
Recently, Apple revised the way that apps have been purchased. In the past, one app could be put on numerous devices. Apple has changed the policy and now charges per copy for each individual student. Hamilton has purchased a volume of apps during this first year of transition to meet the requests of teachers and meet the needs of learners.
The amount of $1000.00 will sustain the app purchases throughout the remainder of the school year. This funding will supply apps for students at all grade levels, special education and RtI (Response to Intervention).
Over the course of the year the PTO has also donated money to fund the cost of the bussing for the Pre-K trip to Rogers Conservation Center, which was their culminating activity for the unit on hibernation and winter. The PTO also donated money for the Kindergarten class transportation to Syracuse to watch Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Other donations have included the Holiday Shop, the Book Fair, OM, the Emerald Foundation, PARP, balloons for Kindergarten and Pre-K Registration, and the books for the Literacy Night held at the school.
In addition, the PTO recently purchased several copies of the popular trilogy The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Librarian Amy Jerome requested these copies after noting that the waiting list for these books had been several students long for weeks. Along with this purchase, the PTO purchased a class set of armbands, requested by teacher Jessica Poole for the students to use in Physical Education to track fitness and nutrition.
In past years the PTO has contributed to the Elementary Yearbook, Family Fun Night, Field Day Entertainment, the Fifth and Sixth grade Hygiene Packages, Health Day toothbrushes, the Moving-up Ceremony, SADD, the After Prom Party, snacks for the Nurse, the Spelling Bee, Scholarships, and Talent Show Decorations.
The Hamilton PTO is excited to be a part of helping our students as they use valuable tools such as up-to-date literature and new technology to further their education and to continue helping HCS be a wonderful learning community.
